More of the Amazing Rebekah

So these last two days at home have been quite the adventure. So much fun, but challenging nonetheless. Ann (Jane's mom) has been a huge help. We keep trying to tell her that she is here to play with the baby, not do our housework!

Jane is trying to figure out how to sleep and listen to Bekah breath at the same time. So far...unsuccessful. But I will let you all know when she has discovered the trick.

We had some difficulties getting breastfeeding going the first several days for several reasons. But as of this afternoon, all seems to be going well in that department. Bekah was born with a short frenulum (the thingy that holds your tongue in your mouth) - you can thank me for that. It's hereditary and I too have a short one. This was making it difficult for her to latch on without severely hurting Jane.

Bekah seriously loves sucking on anything and everything she can get her mouth on. With nursing not going so well, she was being deprived of some serious suck-action. And thus, when Jane was changing her diaper this morning focusing in on the nastiness in her diaper, I happened to observe Bek latching on with full and proper technique to her own big toe! And I thought thumb sucking was going to be an issue...

Here's the fairly severe newborn rash that Bek has. Who would have thought that the flawless, smooth skin she dawned coming out of the womb would be overtaken by this chicken-pox resembling rash all over her body. The doc told us today that it is completely normal and should start to disappear this weekend. This is only her second bath, and it was tag-teamed by Jane and Ann.

A mother and her baby. My wife and my daughter. My two girls. Oh, how I love you both...

Grandma got Bekah all dressed up for visitors tonight. She's looking tired after a 3 - 4 hour stretch of being awake and alert. I can't believe how cute her clothes are. Thanks to whoever got us this outfit.

Is there anything cuter than this? Face scrunched. Drooling. Just lovely...

We have only just begun the journey with our precious baby. Can't wait to continue to share it with you on this blog - especially those of you who will miss the daily happenings in her life because of distance.

Here is another way to keep up on her pictures. I have a Facebook album that is open to anyone. Just click the link below.

And when we were in the hospital we had free pictures taken of Bek. Check them out here. They can be purchased at the website if you are interested.

We're Home With a New Lillie in the Pad!

Yay! Rebekah Jane Lillie has arrived! Many of you have already heard this glorious news and so here are the pictures you have so eagerly anticipated.

After 3 hours and 9 minutes of crazy insane pushing (my wife is a stud), Bekah entered the world weighing an awesome 8 lbs. 15 ounces. She is absolutely perfect...

Just a few minutes after being born. Beautiful...

Yawning...tired from those three-plus hours in the birth canal.

Looking amazingly adorable in her first outfit. Starting to see a bit of new baby rash. And check out that head of hair.

Taking a nap with dad. Mom should be napping too, but she's too busy taking cute pictures of her precious baby and hot hubby.

Who taught her this? Sheesh... :)

More to come...

Summertime

Finally an update! We are getting closer and closer to greeting our baby...I'd sure love it if it was today, but realistically it could be another 4 weeks...our due date is September 3rd and they shouldn't let me go more than 2 weeks late. We are ready and trying to enjoy the season of just being the 2 of us while it lasts! I'm feeling pretty good. Definitely more and more uncomfortable and less capable of normal activity and can't WAIT to fit into jeans again one day, but really am thankful that this has been such a low risk pregnancy.

It's been a great summer. Curtis is continuing to thrive in his work and truly enjoy being a youth pastor. We've seen tremendous growth this summer in the size of our youth group and it has been a lot of fun for him to get to know many new students and see students from our Young Life connection begin to connect to a local body. So exciting!

I've mainly been busy getting ready for baby and taking naps when I can. :)

Here are a few pics to showcase a couple of fun events this summer (when we actually had our camera with us!).

At the baby shower that my mother and sister in law threw for us. It was so fun to get some friends and family together to celebrate! Thanks Carolynn and Erin!

Curtis and I went on vacation down to Indio, CA for a whole week. We stayed at a WorldMark Resort. It was so very good to get away just the 2 of us. We did a whole lot of nothing. Here is Curtis doing work in the kitchen-he was a star this week and served prego me quite well. :)

We played speed Scrabble...

We went swimming (it was between 108 and 112 degrees).

We floated in the lazy river (I did that a LOT...me and my novel)

We ate and read out on our back patio (we read "The Shack" together out loud and highly recommend it)...

I beat Curtis at ping pong (we won't mention that he beat me 3 times before I beat him once...but pretty good at 9 months pregnant, don't you think? I have skills.)

It was lovely.

Finally, here are a couple of pics of the baby's room. Thanks to all of you lovely Oregonians who feed my creativity with many fun decorating ideas to copy. :)

I've since adjusted the height of the fun green scrolly thing, and it has pictures of family tied to it with ribbon for her viewing pleasure during diaper changing time. :)

So many people have graciously given us beautiful gifts...she's going to be one well dressed baby! :)

I guess that's it for now!
